THEATRE DIRECTOR

My idea of what is a director:

The director is a benevolent and strong leader that is responsible of all the aspects of the mise en scene of a theatrical text. Directing means knowing at least the rudiments of every aspect of theatre and being able to entrust people to take care of the various features. Directing is synonym of: facilitating, connecting, creating, experimenting, respecting, envisioning, finding the performance.
Directing means to me caring deeply about all the aspect of theatre and of the play.

My interest:

My main area of interest are multicultural and intersectional feminist theatre. I think that there is a lack of representation in Irish theatre of international writers and female writers. As a multicultural director my interest is to work on plays that have no borders. My aim is to promote an understanding of intercultural similarities. I also have a keen interest in sexualization and the taboos of the society towards different sexual identities and practices. I believe that theatre can be used to move the audience into a deeper understanding of themselves that can result in a wider expanded consciousness.

My influences:

Dario Fo and Franca Rame are the example of theatre that is applicable to any concept, I also have a keen interest in Churchill, Boal, Grotowsky and Brecht. These are authors and theatre practitioners that inspire me. I also am influenced by Commedia dell'Arte Clowing and Physical Theatre.
How do I see myself:

I see myself as an open minded daring director. I am not afraid of surprising or shocking the audiences and innovate and reimagine plays. I have a keen interest in new plays and a relationship with playwrights. I see myself working in small theaters on a low budget and making very powerful work. I imagine my work as bodacious, touching and meaningful.

What I would bring to the table is a professional, friendly and multicultural approach. I am also a physical theatre choreographer.
